This Saturday, May 12 is Letter Carriers Food Drive!! To make a big difference in our community, all you have to do is put some non-perishable food items in a bag and place the bag by your mailbox this Saturday. Your mailman will then deliver all the bags he collects to a local food bank or pantry.
Oh we couponers can do this! Below is a list of the items that food pantries need most:
diapers, rice, pasta, toilet paper, pasta sauce, canned tuna, cereal, mac & cheese, canned fruit, canned vegetables, toothpaste, shampoo, deoderant, laundry detergent, and feminine prodcuts
All of these items we couponers can get at huge discounts or even get them for free!
Oh let's use couponing to not only cut our own grocery bill in half, but let's use couponing to feed needy people in our own community. Just imagine what a difference we would make if every gal who took my coupon class would place a bag full of items by her mailbox on this Sat!
My church's food pantry serves over 200 families a month. While we are thrilled to serve these folks in need, we are being squeezed fininacially. The number of families coming to our food panty doors increases every week. There really is a need and we couponers could easily meet it by donating some of our deals. Here is Rob and Brooke stocking the shelves of our church's food pantry. See?! There are empty spots.
Imagine what would happen right here in our own community if we each adopted our local food pantry as a "part of our family" and started shopping for this food pantry as part of our weekly shopping that we do for our own family. Oh there are bargains and free items every week that would make good donations!
So who is in? Who is going to leave a bag of non-perishables by their mailbox on Sat! I certainly am! Will you join me?
