5 for This Week

5 heads up for this first official week of summer:

1. Thanks to an Intentional Home blog reader, I learned that at Harris Teeter, Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts are $1.99/lb EVERYDAY. Now you do need to use your vic card to get this price (without vic card, they are $2.99/lb). And you do need to buy the fresh, boneless, skinless chicken breasts at the MEAT COUNTER (not the prepackaged kind) to get this price. But this is great news because my stock up price for boneless, skinless chicken breasts is $1.79-$1.99. And now I do not have to wait for a sale to come along; I can just buy as needed.

2. With the chicken breasts I bought above, I tried a new recipe from Pinterest: Crock Pot Honey Sesame Chicken.

Rob and I thought it was better than Pei Wei. Really! Finally an easy and yummy homemade Chinese dinner. I served this chicken over brown rice and some frozen stir fry veggies. All but one kid liked it. It really was delicious. So much so that we has it 2 nights in a row.

I followed the recipe exactly, except once I dished some on a plate, I stirred a little bit of Chili Garlic Sauce into the mixture. This sauce adds just the kick and spice we like.  We felt like this addition is what made the meal.  Here is a picture of the sauce in case you want to pick up a bottle next time you're at the store:

Rob and Anna actually like their tuna fish made with this Chili Garlic Sauce. They mix together canned tuna, mayo, pickle relish, celery, and chili garlic sauce. Makes for a spicy tuna sandwhich.

3. Food Lion is running a great Gift Card Deal. Buy $50 of any of the gift cards pictured below and you automactically get $10 taken off at the register. So a $50 gift card is only $40, a 20% savings. I plan to stock up on Lowes cards. And Anna bought an iTunes card with her birthday money. This deal is good til June 19th. And there is a limit of one $50 for $40 deal per shopping trip.

The deal gets even better if you go into Food Lion 6 times between now and July 17 and spend at least $45. Each time you go in, have them scan your MVP card and the Spectacular Summer Saving Event Enrollment Card found in this week's Food Lion flyer.  You will get one point for each shop and once you get 6 points, you will receive a $20 coupon good for your next shopping visit.

I plan to go in 6 times between now and June 19th and buy a $50 gift card (for $40) and $5 of items we need so I can get the $20 coupon which Harris Teeter will take.

4 This Friday, June 15 from 2-7pm,  Tropical Cafe Smoothie is giving away free 24 oz. Jetty Punch Smoothies to all customers who wear flip flops into their store!  Tropical Cafe Smoothie deems the third Friday of June National Flip Flip Day! There is a Tropical Cafe Smoothie on Oberlin and Creedmoor here in Raleigh.

5. Plaid, the company that makes paint and modpodge and other crafty goodness sent me a box of goodies. These are the goodies that Anna and 21 of her friends used to create the craft they made at her 15th birthday party.  On Friday, I will be sharing the cratt. .all the how-tos. . and lots of pictures from the creative mess. This craft project is perfect for tween and teens (and you! I made one!) so make sure you come back Friday.

    1. Hi- See the 2nd Food Lion picture above. If you go into Food Lion 6 times between now and July 17 and spend at least $45 and each time you go in, have them scan your MVP card and the Spectacular Summer Saving Event Enrollment Card found in this week's Food Lion flyer. You will get one point for each shop and once you get 6 points, you will receive a $20 coupon good for your next shopping visit. Since Harris Teeter takes competitor coupons, you could take this Food Lion $20 coupon and use it at Harris Teeter. Hope that makes it clearer.
